Description, patients and keywords:

3D printing is a rapidly developing field that holds great promise for an expanding range of clinical applications. Currently the main proven applications of this technology have been its use in surgical planning and as surgical guides. However, there is a paucity of data describing the clinical safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of 3D printing in clinical practice. In addition, the long-term benefits for patients have yet to be determined in terms of the quality or durability of medical devices manufactured by 3D printers.
